Since I’ve completed the Anatomy Trains in Motion, Slings Myofascial Training and Bodyreading courses I’ve been really fascinated with the Tom Myers ATSI bodywork concept. One of the training aims of Slings is to create structural integration through movement, but how does it translate in manual therapy? I had to experience this for myself.

Over the last 2 months I’ve had 3 Structural Integration sessions with the very skilled Joe from @humanoperformance. Can you spot the difference? After just 3 sessions with Joe (not all clear from this angle, just trust me😉):
🔹My arms are hanging closer to the body, more at ease.
🔹Shoulders less medially rotated, arms are hanging more back, rather than front.
🔹Shoulders have dropped, more relaxed & even, less tension.
🔹Pelvis is more neutral, less anterior shift and less anterior tilt.
🔹The position of my ribcage relative to my pelvis is different.
Above all I feel more grounded.

I believe manual therapy and movement therapy complement each other, combined they can create both immediate (manual) and lasting (movement) changes.

Joe’s website explains what Structural Integration is - ‘’If you’re suffering from chronic pain or limited mobility, then often just stretching or strengthening is not enough. Stuck tissue layers can cause tension and be the source of pain or reduced mobility. Structural Integration assesses the full body, identifies imbalances and areas of immobile tissue and uses myofascial release techniques to improve mobility & movement, reduce body imbalances, and reduce the causes of pain. For a specific issue, Myofascial Therapy can help, but in more complicated issues a more systematic approach to improve the whole body Structural Integration is more beneficial. Structural Integration is done in series 3 or 12 sessions.’’

I would highly recommend Structural Integration and Joe.
